Job description

A US listed general insurance business is looking to hire a high calibre Financial Controller for a newly created position supporting the Group Head of Finance. This role will ensure smooth functioning of the UK Finance function and will be responsible for the delivery of reporting, both internally and externally to the regulatory authorities, UK board and other external parties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the financial accounting and ensure accurate book-keeping with all necessary documentary evidence.
  • Responsible for various period closing and drawing up financial reports accurately to reflect true and fair view of operating results and state of affairs at period ends.
  • Resolution of integration issues and reviewing integration controls.
  • Supervise cash & cash equivalents regularly to ensure smooth funding of working capital to business cycles. Coordinate with the claims team to ensure availability of funds for large payments. Work with Group Finance and Group Investment teams to transfer surplus funds for investing.
  • Review adjustments to convert US GAAP reports to UK GAAP.
  • Lead submission of Solvency II returns and provide input to the Actuarial and Risk teams for Solvency reporting. Oversee all other regulatory returns such as PRA returns, VAT returns and others with timely submission.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting and forecasting process for the UK entity. Coordinate with the FP&A Manager and Group Finance to produce expense budget.
  • Provide commentaries on the actual vs budget for underwriting income and admin expenses.
  • Assist Head of UK Finance on various finance projects and ad hoc reports.
  • Direct line management of two senior staff members and indirect supervision of three junior staff members.
  • Manage and review performance of the direct reports including mentoring and coaching
  • Enhance the technical skills of the team and explore opportunities to increase team collaboration, both in London and also with the wider team in Amman

The ideal candidate for this role will be a qualified accountant with experience gained in the non-life insurance sector or within an accountancy practice. You will need a sound understanding of UK GAAP, Solvency II, financial operations & cash management and be keen to gain a breadth of exposure across a small team.
