On Wednesday 18th November, the Convention Centre Dublin was host to over 1000 actuaries for what was the 30th anniversary of the IFoA’s Life Conference.
It was a conference of firsts for me; along with my first attendance to Life Conference, it was my first trip to Ireland and also my first experience on a hoverboard – but more about that later…
HFG’s stand and collection of chocolate, quizzes and tantalising prizes were as popular as ever; with our cleverly themed “Back to the Future – Spot the Difference” competition proving to be a prime talking point among the delegates.
The reputation and tradition of the HFG stand providing a range of delicious chocolates and treats was successfully maintained and in fact so much so that we nearly ran out of stock during the welcoming reception and registration!
This year the plenaries covered a wide range of Life related topics – some of which had some very intriguing titles! The breakout sessions provided us with a brilliant opportunity to meet with everyone and to launch our Back to the Future themed spot the difference game. With some of the differences providing a challenge to competitive and intrigued actuaries it was certainly a draw to our stand, where the first prize was appropriately a hoverboard!
The conference dinner in the evening was hosted by Rory Bremner and provided another great opportunity for catching up with people at a more social occasion. His stand up session was superbly researched and very well received.
After the final session on Friday morning, we announced the winners of our spot the difference competition and business card draw. Thank you to all who took part and congratulations to all of the winners. We hope that the recipient of our first prize (the hoverboard) has more success on it than I did!
As ever, Life Conference was a brilliant opportunity to meet new and familiar faces and to also get up to speed on the latest thoughts and innovations within the Life sector and wider industry.
We hope you all enjoyed your time in Dublin and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
