This typically smaller conference was attended by c.150 delegates predominantly from Risk and Investment positions across Financial Services and provided a relaxed and informal setting to discuss pertinent topics within the industry.
HFG hosted an exhibitors stand where delegates were encouraged to ride a jet ski on the ever popular Xbox Kinect, enter our raffle or speak to one of the consultants about market trends, career advice and relevant opportunities. This provided us with an excellent opportunity to meet with existing and prospective clients from around the country.
The opening plenary was given by Joe Simpson, the mountaineer, who wrote ‘Touching The Void’. It was an inspirational story which honed on the message ‘Success is a choice, not chance.’ This was then followed by a variety of plenaries and workshops which covered a broad enough range of topics to successfully keep everyone away from the golf course! A particular mention goes to Andrew Roberts and Ross Walker, whose plenary on ‘UK Bonds in a Global context’ proved to be so popular that if you arrived late it was standing room only! The entertainment began at dinner when Ben Goldacre arrived to deliver quite an amusing after dinner speech on misconceptions of medicine in the media.
As always, the Risk and Investments conference was well enjoyed and was a great opportunity to discuss current trends and topics. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the IFoA for organising another fantastic event, we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
