On Tuesday 23rd September 2014, HFG hosted their largest golf day to date at the prestigious Celtic Manor Resort. The event coincided with the start of GIRO 2014 – the actuarial profession’s largest conference of the year.
The day began with breakfast hosted in the Twenty Ten clubhouse with introductions from the HFG directors and our sponsored PGA Professional – Richard Wallis.
With most of the attendees aware that the 2010 Ryder Cup course had hosted the Welsh Open two days previously, the anticipation amongst the 72 guests was evident as they were led out to their respective tees for the 11am shotgun start.
Circulating around the holes over the course of the day, the most common feedback was that it was an extremely challenging course. However, most of the golfers responded that they had ‘given it their best shot’ – and for many it was the sheer experience of playing one of the world’s premier courses that more than made up for their not-so-premier scores!
Woldingham Golf Club’s Head Pro Danny Young was on hand at the par 3 17th hole for the ‘Beat the Pro’ competition whilst Richard Wallis played a hole with every group offering general golfing advice. After completing the 18 hole course, the guests then reconvened for afternoon drinks overlooking the 18th green for the prize giving and charity raffle where £1,180 was raised for HFG’s chosen charity JDRF.
HFG Director William Gallimore was quoted as saying; “The day was an enormous success and everyone who took part was able to take away something from the experience. It gave a great opportunity for us to speak with people on a one-to-one basis as well as enjoy the social aspect of the day and of course raise some money for charity”.
