Last week Edinburgh saw an influx of actuaries, life actuaries. Those in attendance arrived from firms, consultancies and reinsurers from across the globe and were looking forward to the IFoA’s 31st Life Actuarial Conference. Running from the 2nd to the 4th of November there were a range of useful plenaries and workshops to suit all actuaries.
Wednesday’s opening speech proved to be a popular focus and talking point for the remainder of the Conference; the importance of diversity within Financial Services and Insurance. Thursday was a day filled with plenaries and workshops covering various topics prevalent throughout the life insurance industry. Such subjects included; The New Bottom Line: Environmental Social and Governance, how well has Solvency II met its objectives for the life insurance industry? and innovation out of Africa – a new approach to diabetes. The evening also saw the conference drinks and dinner. With fantastic entertainment provided by Dara Ó Briain this provided further opportunity to network away from the exhibition stands.
The conference came to a close on Friday but before anyone packed up, there was of course the long-awaited announcement for who had won on the HFG competition. This year’s prizes included a drone, two bottles of champagne and a Hotel Chocolat gift set. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to the rest of you for taking part.
We, as always, had a fantastic time at the Life Conference and look forward to next year in Birmingham!
